There are all kinds of addictions that will enslave and in many cases destroy peoples lives, affecting their loved ones in the process. Unfortunately, this is a fast growing problem in our modern world and the traditional rehabilitation programs are struggling to cope with this situation offering low success rates ranging in the 1% ending up in an eternal cycle of relapses and commonly known in rehabilitation clinics as "swingdoor patients"
As a former "swingdoor patient" and severe multiple substance abuser, i'm well known with the entire process and different spectrum of rehabs; all from the traditional ones including the 12 steps, the religious and the ones that will enforce psychiatric components to the patients.
None of these places worked for me nor for any acquaintance of mine. It seemed impossible to escape that black hole of addiction and I always said it was impossible for me to get rehabilitated.
When i got offered the opportunity to drink ayahuasca i had never heard about it before.. I was told that it's effects gave "a sort of high" and with that explanation I was easily convinced.
Most importantly, Ayahuasca taught me to start loving myself and be my own best friend. When this realization happens the self-destructive behaviour radically transforms to it's opposite, only longing for the healthy, the positive and the constructive. Lifelong addicts, specially the ones that started their substance abuse from an early age grow up as immature, mentally teenage adults that avoid responsibility and accountability. Ayahuasca is an amazing tool for maturing the mind, becoming an adult and assuming responsibility. I would compare drinking ayahuasca as drinking wisdom and common sense from a bottle, your personal psychologist and a direct connection to your heart and true self.
Over the years we have invited many former addiction related acquaintances to try ayahuasca with excellent results. I have never seen any other kind of rehabilitation process even close to the success rates as in a professional ayahuasca assisted rehabilitation. It is still important to note that no rehabilitation is guaranteed.
It has been nearly 10 years since i freed myself from the invisible chains of addiction and in the course of that time i have taken a masters degree in pharmacy and worked in a rehabilitation centre in Norway.
